Kahlil Gibran Returns to New York after 100 years

​On the 25th of April, the United Nations celebrated the life and work of renowned Lebanese-American poet and artist Gibran Kahlil Gibran. “Kahlil​ Gibran Returns to New York after 100 years” was sponsored by the Permanent Mission of Lebanon to the U.N. and co-sponsored by the University of Balamand, The National Committee and the Museum of Gibran in Lebanon in collaboration with the World Lebanese Cultural Union-U.S. Council.



The exhibition commemorated the 100th anniversary of Gibran's seminal work, "The Prophet," and showcased a collection of his most prominent paintings and manuscripts transferred from Lebanon to the United Nations building in New York. 



The opening event comprised of a selection of readings from Gibran’s work in Arabic, Chinese, French, Hindu, Russian, and Spanish.  In addition to musical performances, and video screening all honoring Gibran. The ceremony also included presentations from Dr. Henry Habib, Mr. Joseph Geagea, and Dr. Nasria Fliti, who provided valuable insights into the significance of Gibran's works.



 

The event concluded with a speech by the keynote speaker of the event, President of the University of Balamand, Dr. Elias Warrak, who reflected on the profound impact of Gibran’s work on Lebanese art, education and literary culture.
