Future Programs

Due to the expanding field of environmental research and its contribution to the healthy development of societies coupled with the excitement that has been generated by the growing Institute, several new programs are expected to be launched alongside the current three programs. Each of these programs is expected to tackle one of the main environmental problems currently facing Lebanon and the region, and are as follows:

1. The Waste Management Program: Based on several projects dealing with solid waste management and waste water treatment at the Faculty of Engineering, the program would analyze the extent of both the solid waste and the waste water treatment problems throughout Lebanon. More importantly, the Waste Management Program would develop technological and policy solutions to this serious environmental and public health crisis on the national and regional levels.

2. The Renewable Energy Program: Based on a project on the design of solar ponds at the Faculty of Engineering coupled with the rising costs of fossil fuels, and taking into consideration the environmental and economic need in Lebanon for renewable energy, the program would investigate realistic technologies and policies for sustainable, renewable energy and pay special attention to solar and wind generated power.
