pic6
This project was the first of its kind in Lebanon and launched turtle monitoring activities in terms of species, nesting behavior, survival and recruitment. Students from the Environmental Sciences Department as well as a student from the Faculty of Health Sciences provided the necessary human resources for the implementation of this activity. Material and equipment was kindly purchased by the Palm Island Government Appointed Committee and the MedWetCoast Project at the Ministry of Environment.

The project lasted during the nesting season for a period of 3 month: end of May 2005 until end of August 2005. This project saw the following outputs:
  • Developed the log-sheet for tagging and monitoring

  • Trained the Palm Island Reserve Rangers, MEDWET-Coast and Tyre Reserve Rangers on tagging techniques

  • Exposed the role of the MRCZM, the IOE and the UOB in turtle monitoring at the national and international levels
