Academic Programs

The Health Promotion (HP) Program currently offers a community-oriented BS degree (103 credits), and a Dual BS degree (an additional 36 credits) combining Health Promotion and Public Health and Development Sciences. Both have a structured, multidisciplinary curriculum which exposes students to a broad understanding of the field. It is also possible to take a Pre-Med track with a BS degree in HP.

Teaching is in English, but with an emphasis on cultural competency and Arabic literacy. Courses are taught by faculty with diverse professional and practical experience in health, community work, media and the arts, and life and social sciences.

The BS degree gives students the opportunity to learn how to identify obstacles and challenges to the adoption of healthier policies and behaviors for individuals, groups, and communities, and to select, monitor, and evaluate creative strategies for change. The Program fosters the development of teamwork and leadership skills essential for students to assume active advocacy roles. Applied community work is emphasized; students undertake a two-month placement (project residency) in an international, nongovernmental, or governmental agency.

Qualified graduates in health promotion/public health are much needed in Lebanon and the region to help face the health and development challenges of the 21st century. An undergraduate degree in HP represents a solid first step towards a dynamic career, with many opportunities for further studies and professional practice.
