About the Program

The Medical Laboratory Sciences Program offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees leading to a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science respectively. Recently, a new graduate Program in Laboratory Management has been launched.

The Undergraduate program is a three-year program offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Balamand and leads to a Bachelor of Science. It is available at both the Achrafieh campus, where the Program is offered in partnership with St. George Hospital University Medical Center, and on the Main Campus, where students conduct their trainings with hospitals located in the north of Lebanon.
The multidisciplinary nature of the program allows students to cover a broad range of subjects. Students gain not only theoretical knowledge but also practical hands-on experience in a wide variety of laboratory techniques.

Students are exposed to a multiphase curriculum that provides knowledge in basic sciences, clinical pathology, microbiology, hematology, clinical chemistry, humanities, management, principles of research, and epidemiology and biostatistics. In addition to laboratory training, students are trained to analyze laboratory test results as an essential step in the process of diagnosis and patient care.

Students have the chance to work with precision instruments and equipment vital to their professional formation. Practical training includes modular rotations at the premises of the Faculty of Health Sciences laboratories, as well as those of the Department of Laboratory Medicine at St George Hospital University Medical Center and other hospitals with which the Faculty has agreements.

Graduates are well prepared to pursue careers as laboratory professionals in hospitals or private clinical laboratories, or in laboratory management, pharmaceutical industry, and research centers. Graduates can also pursue higher education in medicine, clinical laboratory sciences, biomedical sciences, or related health science disciplines.

Students who consider the option of a medical career can choose to enroll in a premedical track. This gives students the opportunity to complete premedical courses in three years (102 cr.), train for the MCAT, and be eligible to apply to Medical School.

Master of Science graduate degrees are offered within the Clinical Laboratory Sciences Program.

The Medical Laboratory Sciences program at the Faculty of Health Sciences- University of Balamand offers undergraduate and graduate levels of studies leading respectively to a Bachelor of Science, a Master of Science, and a Professional Master’s degrees.
