The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) at the University of Balamand (UOB) offers degrees in Al-Kurah and in Beirut; options are also available at Souk El Gharb Campus.

Q. What is the mission of the Nutritional Sciences Program at Balamand?
A. The Nutritional Sciences Program at the Faculty of Health (FHS) Sciences is committed to graduating professionals holding a BS degree in Nutritional Sciences with multidisciplinary skills, who would be capable of serving and improving the food, nutrition, and health of the general population through their significant contributions within clinical, community, academic, and private industry settings.

Q. What differentiates Balamand’s Program from other Nutritional Sciences Programs?
A. Our Nutritional Sciences Program is constantly updated to keep up with the progress of technology and the job market. We have established a national reputation for equipping graduates with relevant skills and knowledge. Our instructors are professionals with multidisciplinary competencies. A whole range of resources and facilities are readily available to serve the students. The community at the University of Balamand (UOB) is vibrant, open and friendly with students. Students are given the opportunity to be enrolled in community health and nutrition extra-curricular activities (health fair, open doors, rally paper, world breastfeeding week, world diabetes day, etc.). In addition to nurturing our strategic partnership with Saint George Hospital University Medical Center (SGHUMC), we continue to invest in the development of sectorial and institutional partnerships of value to Program development, learning, and capacity building.

Q. What are the values that inspire our work?
A. Academic integrity and excellence, ethical decision-making, confidentiality, service to the community, teamwork, cross-cultural understanding and sensitivity, critical thinking and effective communication.

Q. What are the potential employment opportunities?
A. Students graduating with a BS in Nutritional Sciences from the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) at the University of Balamand (UOB) need to conduct a Nutrition and Dietetics internship٭ for a minimum period of 6 months in order to be able to pass the National Colloquium Examination Test and get a license to practice the profession of Nutrition and Dietetics in Lebanon.
Potential employers include: community health centers, hospitals, nursing homes, government and non-government organizations, food service or food processing industries, teaching institutions, research laboratories, and private nutrition clinics.

Q. What is a Nutrition and Dietetics internship?
A. Students graduating with a BS in Nutritional Sciences from the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) at the University of Balamand (UOB) do their “Dietetic Internship” at Saint George Hospital University Medical Center (SGHUMC), as well as other hospitals. The interns develop skills based on a structured program of well-designed rotations in nutrition therapy, foodservice management and community settings. Students spend 11 weeks in foodservice management, 22 weeks in clinical nutrition, and 3 weeks in community health clinic (Dialeb, IOCC, Caritas, etc). 

Q. What is the total number of credits needed for undergraduate studies?
A. Students will need a total of 92 or 94 credits in order to complete graduation requirements, with courses ranging from basic sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physiology, Biochemistry, etc.), Basic human nutrition (Human Nutrition and Metabolism, Lifecycle Nutrition, etc.), food science (Food Analysis, Food Processing, Food Microbiology, Food Chemistry, etc.), clinical (Therapeutic Nutrition, etc.), and many others. Students completing pre-medical requirements will need to take more credits.

Q. I want to study at University of Balamand. How do I apply? Can you send me an application form?

Q. Do you accept transfer students? I've already done one year of my degree course, and I want to change institutions.
A. A student can transfer to the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Balamand to complete a course begun elsewhere. Certain rules apply. Contact us at: .

Q. What kind of financial aid is available?
A. The Department of Nutrition does not guarantee funding.  However, we do have some funding for students who need financial aid.  If you are applying and need financial aid, please indicate that in your application.  Decisions about funding are based on merit and need.

Q. What are the higher academic degrees that can be pursued after a BS in Nutritional Sciences?
A. Our graduates can pursue higher education degrees (MSc or PhD) in the areas of nutrition, health, and food sciences, in and outside the University of Balamand (UOB). Students who complete their pre-medical requirements along with their Nutritional Sciences BS degree may apply to medical school.

Q. Do you offer a Master degree in Nutrition? How can I find out about it?
A. The University of Balamand does not offer a Master degree in Nutrition for the time being. Other Master degrees in Health Sciences are available. The Nutritional Sciences Program is in continuous development.
