Student & Program Activities



Students are encouraged to join the many social and professional activities in the Public Health and Development Sciences (PD) Program and at the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS). These include research seminars, workshops, field trips, volunteer work, and community interventions, as well as parties and fun get-togethers.

Academic life and activities are regularly enhanced by the presence of visiting international scholars. Recent guests have been Professor Stephen Ghelbach of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, USA, Professor Jeanette Edwards from the University of Manchester, UK, and Dr. Carol Garber from the University of Columbia, New York.

Faculty and students have helped to organize various activities on and off campus, often in collaboration with the Office of Student Affairs, or within the context of the Co-Academic Programs. They have also been active participants in Program and Faculty seminars and events.

The following are a brief selection of recent PD activities: ​

  • Community service activities to serve the community living in the neighborhood, such as a day with the elderly on the World Health Day, organizing a Christmas party for orphans, volunteer work with children with special needs. 
  • Field trips to: Farid and Daad Karam Reserve; the National Cement Industry; ​Tripoli; Bsharri cedar forest; Ehden Reserve; Jabal Moussa; Shouf Cedar Forest;  the Industrial Research Institute; the Institute of the Environment UOB; waste recycling facilities at a hospital in Beirut; Arc en Ciel; the wine industry and food manufacturing plants in the Bekaa; and many more…
  • Career workshops and Graduate studies workshops on opportunities in Lebanon and overseas. Students also participated in Career Fairs organized by the University.   
  • Student club retreats and  capacity building workshops on: leadership; team work skills and conflict resolution; SPSS software. 
  • Workshops and Conferences on: Qualitative Research; Grey water and Waste water Management; Climate change; Recycling, Osteoporosis; Breast Cancer; Breast Feeding; Mental Health; Child Abuse. 
  • Faculty-wide Community Health Fairs: Health, Risk and SafetyHealth Today Healthier Tomorrow
  • Conferences on: Substance Abuse; Landmines and Cluster Munitions; Gerontology and Geriatrics; Quality Assurance; Breast Cancer and Reproductive Health; Musculoskeletal Disorders; Teaching Methodologies in Higher Education; Health and Human Rights.
  • Training and capacity building for literacy skills, food hygiene and food markets in Tripoli. 
  • World Health Day 2013.

4-Development Club (4D Club) - Achrafieh Campus
The 4D Club is a club that aims at promoting awareness for healthier development in its various dimensions - environmental, health, and social. Its goal is to communicate public health messages that encourage well-being and healthier lifestyles. The aim of the club is achieved through a wide variety of activities and Faculty events that engage all members of the University community regardless of their background.

In 2014/15, the club was active in social activities and supporting Faculty wide community outreach events such as AIDS Awareness Campaign, Secret Santa, and the Annual Club fair at FHS Achrafieh.


Healthy Minds Club – Main Campus (Al Kurah)

The Healthy Minds Club aims at changing people’s perception of life to a whole new level in order to maintain a healthy and satisfactory state. Its goal is to contribute to the campus life as a whole through informing, educating, promoting health, and organizing activities to help scholars protect themselves from diseases and infections. The aim of the club is achieved through a wide variety of activities and Faculty events that engage all members of the University community regardless of their background. 

In 2014/15, the club was active in social activities and supporting Faculty wide community outreach events such as “Your Future Starts Today” Workshop and the “Yummy Healthful Snacks” Activity.
