SMALL BITE, BIG THREAT

WORLD HEALTH DAY April 7, 2014

This year, World Health Day highlights “VECTOR BORNE “DISEASES. Vector-borne diseases are diseases that are transmitted by small organisms such as mosquitos and snails. They affect more than half of the world’s population. They are also emerging in places where they were previously unknown or had been eradicated, due to many reasons such as climate change, changes in agricultural practices, increasing urbanization and globalization of travel and trade, and population displacement. Simple preventive measures (such as vaccination) can be taken to protect oneself and one’s families from such diseases.
