MPH graduate student Bianca Salloum on a UN training in Geneva

Bianca Teeny Salloum, a Master of Public Health candidate at FHS, was one of two UOB students funded by the United Nations to attend the 54th United Nations Graduate Study Program (GSP54). The GSP54 is a yearly bilingual (English & French) workshop for graduate students from all over the world, held at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. This year’s program took place from July 4th to July 15th under the theme of “Humanitarian Assistance and Development” with 70 participants from 33 countries.  The program consisted of morning sessions with speakers from different UN agencies such as WHO and UNHCR, presenters from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), and a lecture at the Graduate Institute of Geneva on UN reform. The afternoons involved working group sessions with one of 5 UN bodies; Bianca participated in the one with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), where the group devised 4 future scenarios for climate change induced migration and recommended the reduction of carbon emissions and the development of sound migration policies. The program was a great opportunity to learn about the UN system, and meet, work and network with graduate students from diverse academic and cultural backgrounds.
