The Joys of Volunteering! FHS Nutritional Sciences student Joan Kabche

University life is not all about studying and getting good grades only.  It is about expanding your knowledge about other cultures while increasing your self esteem. This is exactly what Joan Kabche, a UOB FHS nutrition student, did.  Joan applied to AIESEC for an internship  (aiesec.org/internships/). AIESEC is a non-governmental not-for-profit organization in consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), affiliated with the UN DPI, member of ICMYO, and is recognized by UNESCO. Joan got much more than what she imagined she was applying for and had a wonderful experience!

“It was around this time last year that I came across AIESEC (..) I decided to volunteer. (…) I had a plethora of countries to choose from and I decided to go to Romania which was by far the best decision I made. I stayed there for 50 days spending my time at a kid’s summer camp sharing with them the traditions and cultures of Lebanon. Beside the process of educating the youth, I met plenty of people from diverse backgrounds. Personally, I encourage anyone who has the time to apply to AIESEC and go through this incredible journey in making a change (…)Each day we would discuss one thing related to our country such as traditions and the culture. The children were exceptionally interested in learning all about Lebanon, especially how to write their names in Arabic.”
