Corporate Governance

Mr. Raed Charafeddine, the first Vice Governor of Banque Du Liban, was the guest speaker on the 27th of October 2016 at The Faculty of Business and Management at the University of Balamand. Mr. Charafeddine lectured to our EMBA and DBA candidates in relation to the effect of “Corporate Governance” on the wellbeing of nations, organizations as well as the banking sector.
He explored the difference between rich nations and poor nations. He pointed out that “culture and behavior” of citizens in each country play an important and decisive factor. He added that “ citizens of rich nations have a great respect for law and follow rules and abide by the law in everything they do”.
Citizens of poor nation actually do exactly the opposite. Most of poor nations citizen have no respect for rules. He gave example of the Japanese economy and the economical success of this little nation. Japan has the 8th largest economy in the world while it has almost zero agricultural or natural resources.
He later answered question related to the policies of BDL from the guests. He stressed that BDL is driving a big change in its organizational structure that will sustain the growth and maintain confidence in the banking sector.
