Success Stories From North Lebanon

Turning innovative ideas into successful businesses

The Faculty of Business and Management, in collaboration with the Business Incubation Association in Tripoli (BIAT), organized a seminar that brought together entrepreneurs from north Lebanon who showcased their innovative ideas that turned into successful businesses.

In his welcoming speech, Mr. Nasri Mouawad, BIAT’s vice director, stressed the importance of this meeting in encouraging other entrepreneurs who have innovative ideas to pursue their goals.

Dr. Karim Nasr, dean of the Faculty of Business and Management, focused on the role of the University of Balamand, “designed to meet the needs of the communities around it, and to make a difference in the lives of people and to contribute to nation-building”,  adding that this gathering will be a lesson from individuals and highly accomplished people.

The audience also heard from other speakers, including:
  • Mr. Saad Andari, second vice governor of Lebanon’s central bank, stressed the importance of the bank’s incentive plan  to support housing, education, renewable energy projects, innovative projects, research & development ventures, entrepreneurship, and other productive sectors of the economy.

  • Mr. Fawaz Hamidi, director of BIAT addressed the importance of launching new innovative projects.

  • Mr. Elie Aoun, head of the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) unit at Banque Libano Française, addressed the role of his bank in supporting entrepreneurship and innovation in order to turn innovative ideas into successful businesses, creating room for new employment opportunities.

  • Head of Kafalat, Mr. Khater Abou Habib showcased the role of his company, that guarantees loans for SMEs and “helps them by providing loan guarantees based on business plans / feasibility studies that show the viability of the proposed business activity.”

    Those short speeches were followed by interventions made by the following entrepreneurs​:

  • Mr. Moustafa Badawi, manager of CCG, talked about his company that “became one of the leading networking and IT solutions companies”  in Lebanon.

  • Mr. Jamil Haddad, founder of Colonel Beer Brewery showcased his unique concept to the market “that delivers crafted beers on the shores of Batroun, in north Lebanon.”

  • Ms. Soumaya Merhi highlighted her unique concept: BreadBasket Square (BBS) which is the first wheat-free artisanal bakery in Lebanon.

  • Mr. Chafic Ghazaleh spoke about Ehden Adventures, that introduced new entertainment activities to the community.

  • Finally, Balamand’s computer engineering student Georges Bahry, talked about his application: “I am not OK”  that allows the user to send a "I am not OK " message, that gives exact GPS coordinates, to designated persons, in case one is in need of assistance. ​​​​​​​
