World Economic Developments

The Economics and Capital Markets Research Center (ECMRC) at the Faculty of Business and Management of the University of Balamand held on the 27th of November a presentation on recent world economic developments to a group of Bank branch managers. The presentation was delivered by Fr. Paul Douaihy, Director of the ECMRC, who took the participants on a trip around the world, visiting the main economic players such as the United States, the Euro Zone and some of its member countries and the BRIC countries; highlighting the main trends in fundamental economic indicators such as the growth rate, inflation, unemployment, industrial production and the interest rates to cite a few. He provided an in-depth analysis of figures as well as their connections and their possible future evolution, showing that global economic uncertainty still prevails. The participants had many questions regarding the implications of these developments on the banking sector in general and Lebanon in particular. It was also agreed that such global analyses would be very useful if held on a regular basis. Fr Douaihy assured that the ECMRC will hold similar events at least twice a year.
