IX.1 Organization of the Faculty

IX.1.1 Officers of the Faculty

The Faculty of Business shall be headed by a Dean, who may be assisted by an Associate and/or Assistant Dean.

IX.1.2 Faculty Council

The Faculty Council consists of all full-time teaching staff. It is chaired by the Dean. The Faculty Council is advisory to the Dean on all matters submitted to it by the Dean, particularly matters relating to the faculty members and to the policies of the Faculty.

IX.1.3 Standing Committees of the Faculty

The Faculty shall have the following Standing Committees:

  1. The Admissions Committee
  2. The Curriculum Committee
  3. The Library Committee
  4. The Administrative Committee
IX.1.4 Departments, Centers & programs

The faculty shall be organized into Departments, Centers, and Programs, each with a Chairman or Director.


IX.2 Composition and Prerogatives

IX.2.1 Composition

The Faculty shall be composed of the President of the University, the Vice Presidents of the University, the Dean of the Faculty, the Associate and Assistant Dean of the Faculty, the University Librarian, the Dean of Admissions and Registration by virtue of their positions, and all the teaching and research personnel of the rank of Instructor and above.

IX. 2.2 Meetings

Meetings of the Faculty shall be held at the call of the Dean or upon the request of any five members of the Faculty. The Dean chairs Faculty meetings. In his absence it is chaired by the acting Dean. Voting in the Faculty is restricted to full time faculty members only.

One-half of the full-time members of the Faculty constitute a quorum. If no quorum is present at a meeting, another meeting shall be called, at which those members present shall constitute a quorum provided a two-day notice is given.

IX. 2.3 Prerogatives

The Faculty shall have authority and general supervision over all its Departments, Programs and Centers.

The Faculty shall promulgate its own academic policy and shall have authority to direct its own affairs. Actions by the Faculty that may incur additional financial commitments or may affect the academic policy of the University as a whole, shall be referred by the Dean to the President.

Copies of the minutes of Committees shall be sent to all concerned.

The Faculty shall vote all certificates and diplomas granted by the Faculty, and shall recommend to the University Council candidates for its degrees.


IX. 3 Officers of the Faculty

IX. 3.1 Dean of the Faculty

a. Appointment

In accordance with Resolution No. 6/995 of the Board of Trustees, the Dean is appointed by the Board of Trustees upon the recommendation of the President. The President shall make his recommendation after consultation with the Faculty and the University Council.

b. Duties, Responsibilities, and Prerogatives of the Dean:

  1. The Dean shall be responsible for the execution of the policies of the faculty.
  2. The Dean shall be responsible for the development of the Faculty as regards curricula, faculty members, staff, students and physical plant.
  3. The Dean shall, after consultation with the Faculty Council and according to the University’s By-laws:
    • Recommend to the President the appointment of full-time and part-time Instructors and Lecturers.
    • Recommend to the President the appointment of full-time Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors. The President will submit to the University Council all recommendation for the appointment of faculty in professorial ranks for approval. The ranks of Associate and Full Professors are granted by the Board of Trustees upon the recommendation of the President after consultation with the University Council.
  4. The Dean shall prepare the budget of the Faculty after consultation with the Chairmen of Departments and Programs and Directors of Centers.
  5. The Dean shall prepare an Annual Report and present it to the President for transmission to the Board of Trustees.
  6. The Dean shall chair all Standing Committees of the Faculty, with power to delegate such chairmanships.
  7. The Dean shall be empowered to decide which decisions of the Committees of the Faculty shall be in the form of action and which shall be regarded as recommendations to the Faculty.
  8. The Dean shall, upon his discretion, refer Faculty actions to the President.
  9. The Dean shall appoint Chairmen of Departments, Directors of Centers and Programs, Coordinators, etc..
IX. 3.2 Associate or Assistant Dean

The Dean may appoint Associate or Assistant Deans after consultation with the University Council. The Dean recommends such appointments to the President who will submit them to the University Council for approval.


IX.4 Standing Committees of the Faculty

IX.4.1 Election

Members of all Standing Committees shall be elected for a one year term. Committees should submit minutes of meetings to the Dean.

IX. 4.2 Admissions Committee
  1. The Admission Committee shall consist of the Dean as Chairman, the Dean of Admissions and Registration, and three members elected by the Faculty.
  2. The Admissions Committee shall establish admission requirements and shall have charge of matters pertaining to the admission of new students.
  3. The Admissions Committee shall, from time to time, evaluate the policy of admissions and modify required scores for admission in line with Faculty policy.
  4. The Admissions Committee shall act in an advisory capacity to the Dean and the Office of Admissions and Registration
IX.4.3 Curriculum Committee
  1. The Curriculum Committee shall consist of the Dean as Chairman, the Dean of Admissions and Registration, and three members elected by the Faculty.
  2. The Curriculum Committee shall, from time to time, examine the curriculum as a whole and recommend changes to the Faculty. The committee shall have the authority, after consultation with the Department concerned, to approve new courses, to discontinue existing courses, and to modify courses as to their length, content and number of credits. The Curriculum Committee shall also study all proposals submitted to it by the Departments and the Programs.
  3. The Curriculum committee shall recommend to the Faculty modifications of the general graduation requirements.
  4. The Curriculum Committee shall act in advisory capacity to the Dean on matters concerning programs, courses, and examinations.
IX.4.4 Library Committee
  1. The Library Committee shall consist of the Dean as Chairman, the University Librarian , and three members elected by the Faculty.
  2. The Library Committee shall represent the Faculty in all matters of library interest.
  3. The Library Committee shall advise the Dean and the University Librarian on all Faculty matters relating to the Library.
IX.4.5 Administrative Committee
  1. The Administrative Committee shall consist of the Dean as Chairman, the Dean of Admissions and Registration, and three members elected by the Faculty.
  2. The Administrative Committee shall rule on cases of students whose academic status is irregular. It shall also rule on requests and petitions from students concerning academic matters.
  3. The Administrative Committee shall make exceptions to academic regulations in individual cases when it is deemed justified.

IX. 5  Organization of Academic Departments

IX. 5.1 Academic Departments

The Faculty shall consists of Departments, Programs and Research Centers.

IX. 5.2 Organization of Academic Departments
  1. A Department consists of all members of the Faculty who teach or do research in it. Each Department shall have a Chairman appointed by the Dean after consultation with the Department and the Faculty Council.
  2. Minutes of Departmental meetings shall be sent to the Dean’s office and to the University Librarian.
  3. The Department shall decide upon the program of courses to be offered, subject to the approval of the Curriculum Committee. It shall set up requirements for students majoring in it.
  4. The Chairman of the Department shall:
    1. Prepare the Offering and the teaching schedule of the Department.
    2. Appoint academic advisors to students majoring in the Department.
    3. Prepare the budget of the Department for submission to the Dean.
    4. Prepare course descriptions in consultation with the Departmental faculty.
    5. Make recommendations to the Dean on all matters relating to the Departmental faculty.
    6. Initiate plans for the development of the Department.
    7. Maintain in good order Departmental equipment and property.
    8. Coordinate and approve expenditures within the Departmental budget.
    9. Prepare an Annual Report to the Dean.

IX.6 Article VI

These Bylaws become effective upon the approval of the University Council and the Board of Trustees.


IX.7 Article VII

The Faculty may amend these Bylaws by two-third Vote. The amendments become effective after the approval of the University Council and the Board of Trustees.​​
