About the School

Mission
The School of Tourism and Hotel Management at University of Balamand is committed to the delivery of the best education with the highest standards of the Hospitality industry to its students. To achieve this, the 3-year program focuses on the integration of theoretical and practical courses in order to prepare the students for successful careers in entry-level management positions in the various hospitality fields.

Goal

  • Through its yearly curriculum evaluation, the School of Tourism and Hotel Management at University of Balamand aims to be the leader in Hospitality Management education in the region.
  • Through its expanding hospitality industry relationships, the School of Tourism and Hotel Management at University of Balamand aims to be the most reliable educational partner for national, regional and international hospitality organizations.

Languages Used
The main language of instruction is English, although Arabic is used for some courses covering Lebanese Law. As per University rules, all Arab nationals are required to register for one Arabic language course. This condition is waived for students who attended school in foreign countries.

Activities
An important part of University education is the presence of rich student life on campus. To futher enrich this offering, the University sponsors many clubs and societies among which is the Hospitality Student Society (HSS). Under the supervision of a faculty advisor, a group of hospitality students created their own society HSS, on May 16, 2002. The HSS organizes activities of interest to hospitality students and to the university students in general.
HSS activities include: guest lectures, touristic visits, archeological visits and workshops that contribute to the students’ education and knowledge in an informal and entertaining manner.

School Committees
The School of Tourism and Hotel Management includes the following committees:

  • Admissions Committee
    • Members: The Admission Committee shall consist of the Director as Chairman, the Dean of Admissions and Registration, and three members elected by the Faculty.
    • Functions: The Admissions Committee shall establish admission requirements and shall have charge of matters pertaining to the admission of new students. The Admissions Committee shall, from time to time, evaluate the policy of admissions and modify required scores for admission in line with School policy. The Admissions Committee shall act in an advisory capacity to the Director and the Office of Admissions and Registration
  • Administrative Committee
    • Members: The Administrative Committee shall consist of the Director as Chairman, the Dean of Admissions and Registration, and three members elected by the Faculty.
    • Functions: The Administrative Committee shall rule on cases of students whose academic status is irregular. It shall also rule on requests and petitions from students concerning academic matters.  The Administrative Committee shall make exceptions to academic regulations in individual cases when it is deemed justified.
  • Curriculum Committee
    • Members: The Curriculum Committee shall consist of the Director as Chairman, the Dean of Admissions and Registration, and three members elected by the Faculty.
    • Functions: The Curriculum Committee shall, from time to time, examine the curriculum as a whole and recommend changes to the Faculty. The committee shall have the authority to approve new courses, to discontinue existing courses, and to modify courses as to their length, content and number of credits. The Curriculum Committee shall also study all proposals submitted to it by the School and the Programs.  The Curriculum committee shall recommend to the Faculty modifications of the general graduation requirements. The Curriculum Committee shall act in advisory capacity to the Director on matters concerning programs, courses, and examinations.
  • Library Committee
    • Members: The Library Committee shall consist of the Director Chairman, the University Librarian , and three members elected by the Faculty.
    • Functions: The Library Committee shall represent the School in all matters of library interest.  The Library Committee shall advise the Director and the University Librarian on all Faculty matters relating to the Library.
