The Revenue Management Camp (RMC)

Phoenicia Hotel, Beirut May 9-10, 2014

Date: May 9-10th, 2014

The revenue management course is an advanced course given to senior students by the School of Tourism and Hotel Management-University of Balamand, covering different topics regarding Marketing, Rooms’ Division and Hotel Operations in general. Students learn how to manage the hotel’s demand-side to maximize revenue and occupancy vis-à-vis the market and the competition by integrating pricing, sales and inventory management strategies.

The objective of the Revenue Management Camp (RMC) was to offer to the students the opportunity of staying in a five- star hotel as “Guests” and experience the different steps of the guest cycle; from making the booking until departure.

Arriving to the Phoenicia Hotel Beirut on May 9, students and their course instructor were greeted by the assistant revenue manager, the sales manager and the reservations manager at the Cascade Lounge where they exchanged an inspirational conversation about their journey in the hospitality industry and how they got to where they are now.

The group was escorted to a coffee break at the HIRAM Conference room where they attended 3 lectures related to Revenue Management; each lecture covering different topics: history of revenue management, the IHG revenue management system, the different market segments, the demand calendar and forecast, the pricing strategy … The Hotel General Manager, Mr Georg Weinlaender was pleased about the camp idea and passed by the participants to greet and wish them a very nice stay.

In between lectures an amazing lunch at the Mosaic Restaurant was served with an endless buffet and live stations.

After lunch, it was time for the students to experience the Check-In procedure, and they were offered beautiful Phoenician Rooms with an amazing view of the Amethyste lounge, the overall feel of the room was very relaxing and luxurious.

The Amethyste lounge looked really tempting so they all went for a drink to unwind after such a busy and fulfilling day. The day ended with a dinner at Café Mondo with a selection of mouthwatering pastas, pizzas and salad bar.

The sweet-lady-voice operator did not miss our 08.00 o’clock wake-up call and it was very hard to get out of such comfortable beds; a heavenly buffet breakfast was served at the Mosaic Restaurant and after it was time to Check Out.

Students left with a very positive feedback and an amazing experience. A project they will remember throughout their career as professional Hoteliers.
