FROM PASSIVE OPTICAL CDMA TO THE OVERLAPPED CDMA (OCDMA): A Transitional Overview

ABSTRACT: We consider a multirate optical CDMA network that supports multiple traffic classes. In this presentation, we focus on the passive optical CDMA system and its relation to our newly proposed access technique, the “overlapping CDMA”. This approach exploits the linear structure of passive optical components and the nominal time required to accomplish the encoding-decoding operations. A channel model is presented based on a newly introduced bit-overlap procedure. It is shown that our newly proposed system always outperform the existing classical one. In addition, we present a possible implementation of the overlapped CDMA in wireless systems. In this talk our focus is on ideas, the transition between them as well as the on going research.
