Stay in Shape, Explore Lebanon and Meet New People!

If you have not heard of the Adventure Club at UOB, then you are missing a lot. In the summer of 2012, a group of young active students residing in both on-campus and off-campus dormitories decided to take advantage of the beautiful natural sceneries in the region and engage in a number of outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, rock climbing, mountain biking, etc.

In the Fall of 2012, the group of students decided to establish the Adventure Club to capitalize on the growing popularity of outdoor activities and explore new destinations all over Lebanon which attracted the interest of students, faculty and staff members in the main campus and other campuses.

Now, the Club announces a diversified range of activities on a bi-weekly basis to develop the sense of importance of adventure sports in youth and offer them healthy activities. So far, the club explored various hiking trails in the Cedars, Ehden, Jabal El-Cheikh, Bawaleeh Tannourine, Ammou’a, etc., organized caving trips to Rouweiss Af’a and biking trips on the coastal road from Mina to Batroun. They will also participate in the Igharat Al-Arz competition this month organized by the Lebanese Army.

During the last week of February, they organized a cycling trip from the Farid and Daad Karam reserve (where the club members were camping) to the University of Balamand through the mountainous roads of Mejdel. On the way back, they dropped by President’s Salem house in Bterram and shared with him some ideas and future plans.

The Adventure Club is also planning to propagate the culture of bicycles at the University and in the community to promote health through a healthy environment. The multi-dimensional activities of the Club also include snowshoeing, sailing, windsurf, rock climbing, fundraising for good causes and training camp intended to educate the youth on the social and ecological conservation of the area.
