An Artistic Opportunity: A Minor in Theater

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is introducing this Spring semester courses in Theater that will offer students the possibility of earning a minor in the discipline. The courses, which will be taught by celebrated theater personalities, will use Arabic as the language of instruction.

THEA 265, Theatrical Scriptwriting will be taught by the renowned director and screenwriter Marwan Najjar; THEA 266 Acting Techniques will be taught by Balamand’s own Dr. Charles Deek; and THEA 267, Theatrical Direction by Jean Ratl.

The Theater Program is under the direction of Dr. Deek, who is also known around campus as the affable and dynamic Cine Club advisor. The picture seen above is of a recent rendition of the one-act play ‘The Bear’ by Anton Chekhov directed by Dr. Deek.

To offer improved facilities for the program, the very spacious Room 226 in Fares Hall is being refurbished as a theater space with all the necessary equipment for that purpose.

The new courses are likely to be very attractive to a number of students who will now have the opportunity to dedicate part of their studies to the artistic field, a field wide-open in its definitions, specializations, and creative forms.
