The British council and the University of Balamand sign a memorandum of understanding

On the 13th of July 2015, the British Council and the University of Balamand signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), under which the world’s leading International English Language Test (IETLS), managed by the British Council, would be conducted on the university campus.

The signing of the MoU comes in the light of the increasing number of applicants for the exam from all quarters of the north of Lebanon. The agreement is expected to result in gains in terms of facilitating the exam mechanism, in addition to providing flexible and easy logistical arrangements for residents in all areas of the north. Through this agreement, IELTS-related exam services will be provided by the British Council.

On the occasion of the signing, Ms Donna McGowan, Director of the British Council, commented, "This agreement represents the continuing commitment of the British Council to education in Lebanon”. Dr Walid Moubayyed, Dean of Admissions and Registration at the University of Balamand, stated, "The signing of the Memorandum comes as a result of the longstanding relationship between the University of Balamand and the British Council in educational and cultural fields. Our University is looking forward to the signing of this agreement with the British Council to provide the products and services related to the IELTS test on campus. The goal is to help graduates in the north of the country meet their needs with respect to the way this test serves them within the country, in addition to the importance of the test as a requirement to study abroad".

Recognized by the Lebanese Ministry for Higher Education, IELTS is the world’s most popular English language proficiency test, with over two million tests taken annually. More than 9,000 organizations worldwide accept IELTS scores, including government, academic and employment institutions, as well as immigration authorities.

The British Council works in three key areas: the arts, education and the English language, and society more generally.
