  • Jordanian full scholarship to study Chemistry at the American University of Beirut (B.Sc. 1957, M.Sc. 1959)
  • Ph.D. 1962, in Organic Chemistry, University of Colorado, Boulder, CO.
  • Research fellow and Tutor: Harvard University (1962-64)
  • Research Associate , AUB, 1964-1965
  • Assistant Professor, Associate Professor on tenure, Professor- to present.
Administrative Positions at AUB:
  • Vice President for Academic Affairs
  • Acting Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences
  • Chair of the Chemistry Department
  • Member and chair of a large number of University Committees; representing AUB on the Board of Presidents of Private Universities
  • Advisor to H.E. the Minister of Higher Education.
Honorary Positions:​
  • Member of the BOT of the University Balamand: Executive Chair of its Academic Committee, and member of its Executive Committee.
Major Scientific Achievements:
  • Discovered the Beirut Reaction, with the late Professor Costas H. Issidorides: 46 patents in 23 countries, bringing substantial royalties for AUB and Research Corporation, USA. Licensed to Pfizer Corporation: Anti-Bacterial Compounds in Feed Additives.
  • Discovered the Davis-Beirut Reaction, with Distinguished Professor Mark J. Kurth of the University of California at Davis (2005-2011-present)
  • Published 108 papers in leading Organic Chemistry Journals.
