Drugs Cost You More than Money

Under the slogan, 'Drugs Cost You More than Money,' the Office of Student Affairs organized a drug awareness day during which they spread awareness about the dangers associated with the use of drugs through a number of activities with the participation of students, faculty, the internal security forces and a number of specialists.

The first part of the event which hosted students from high schools in the north included information-sharing activities by the UoB Clubs about the dangers of drugs . 

The Internal Security Forces also presented a show with dogs that were trained to sniff out and detect the presence of drugs.   
The second session of the program included a panel discussion dedicated to “drug awareness” during which a number of panelists called on the young members of the audience to stay away from the drugs that have many negative impacts on them.

The panel opened by the screening of a short report prepared by members of the highlights magazine that includes surveys with Balamand students where they explored young people’s perceptions of drug use.

In turn, Henri Mansour, the head of the Anti-Drug Bureau in southern Lebanon; representing Colonel Ghassan Shamsuddin of the internal security forces, underlined the role of the internal security forces in arresting drug dealers. “Drugs is a global phemonemon that has negative social and ethical consequences on the promoter and the addict alike”, he said. 

Dr. Joseph Khoury, a consultant adult and addiction psychiatrist and professor of psychiatry at the School of Medicine at the University of Balamand, joined the panelists and addressed the reasons that push people to drug use. 

In turn, Judge Rola Shafiq Jadayel , the First President of the Courts of Appeal in the South and the Head of the Criminal Court in the South addressed the judicial proceedings resulting from the use of drugs.

Chantale Chedid, a psychologist in the prevention department at the Lebanese Addictions Center “Skoun” underlined the psychological problems that face drug addicts and that leads them to drug abuse.

The event concluded by honoring the panelists for their dedication to saving lives and treating the addicts.
