Emil's Off to London

Emil Whaibeh made his University proud by winning the Lebanese National Public Speaking Competition that took place on March 21 at the Lebanese American University (LAU). Emil, a pre-med, Medical Laboratory senior at FHS Ashrafieh, was one of 13 students from different Lebanese universities participating. The competition, a yearly event organized by the English Speaking Union in coordination with LAU, took as its general theme this year: "To Remain Ignorant of the Past, is to Remain a Child".

Emil spoke eloquently and passionately about the importance of facing the past and achieving justice in the present, in a speech entitled "How to stitch a 100 year old wound". With the help of his coach, FHS English instructor Nayiri Baboudjian, Emil will be representing the University of Balamand and Lebanon in the International Public Speaking Competition in London, England in May. We wish him the best and hope that he comes back a winner!
