Learn to Ski in the Cedars

This is the time to take advantage of the ski course offered by the PHED Dept. on the Cedars’ slopes!

The Physical Education Department at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences offers every fall and spring a ski course in the Cedars. The course consists of five days of training in the Cedars and includes an introduction to the equipment and its development as well as an initiation to specific techniques.

The University of Balamand is the only university in Lebanon offering a ski course, says Nabil Nasr, the instructor charged with the course.

Students learn the basic ski skills, such as snow plough or “chasse neige,” turning left and right, starting and (of course!) stopping, and do so initially on the slopes designated for beginners.

Forty students are enrolled in this course this semester and physical education students who already took this course assist coach Nasr, so that for every four students, there is an instructor assisting them.

Although students start by playing it safe on beginners slopes, says Nasr, many quickly progress to train on intermediate slopes.

So, give it a try!
