Annual MDF Workshop

The Mediterranean Development Forum MDF organized a three-day workshop from 15 to 17 August, that brought together 45 participants from all over the Mediterranean.

The workshop was organized by students from the University of Balamand, and covered topics that concern the Mediterranean region such as sustainable development and human rights.

The mission of the workshop, said student Tamara Hanna, is to gather students from all over the Mediterranean in Lebanon, in order to promote cultural exchange in terms of sustaining our blue planet for generations to come. The gathering of the youth at MDF, added Hanna, was organized to help empower and equip these individuals with the appropriate cognitive and practical tools needed to further these aims.

The workshop entitled: Human rights: a Right or a Fight? , included the participation of scholars and activists who discussed topics ranging from the status of refugees, civic engagement, prisoner’s rights, violence, social media and health awareness.

Representing the University of Balamand were Ms. Rola Jadayel , Assistant dean of students Affairs, Dr. Rabih Machaalani, advisor to the MDF and Ms. Tamara Hanna. "It was an experience of lifetime," said one of the organizers, Asma Kammoun; "the forum provided us with an opportunity to exchange ideas in the midst of the political turmoil in the region."
