Maria Kiwan claims first place in her age category in the Beirut Marathon

Maria Kiwan, 22, a Masters student in Business Administration, claimed first prize in her age category at the BLOM Bank Beirut Marathon held on November 13th. She finished the race in a record time of 3 hours, 41 minutes.

An enthusiast for the sport, Maria claims that the reason for her success was her relentless dedication, daily training, and focus on endurance. Her coach, Mr Dan Crisan, an instructor at the Department of Physical Education, stressed that Maria’s hard work and training were crucial to her success. He focused on the trust relationship he had built with Maria as an important factor in her achievement. For Mr Crisan, running is a matter of culture and lifestyle and not simply a sport.

Mrs May Khalil, President of the Beirut Marathon Association, visited UOB during the preparations phase of the Marathon. She met with President Dr Elie A. Salem and a number of students, showcasing success stories and encouraging the university to support its own success stories by promoting the Marathon. It was as a result of this meeting that Mr Crisan was appointed coach to Maria, supervising her intense training over a period of two months.

As the running culture continues to grow in Lebanon, events like the Beirut Marathon are seen as key achievements, bringing people together and helping to spread the running lifestyle.

Our warm congratulations to Maria!
