National Olive Day

The Issam M. Fares Faculty of Technology at the University of Balamand hosted the national olive day in the north, in collaboration with the ministry of agriculture, the union of Koura Municipalities, the chamber of Commerce , Industry and Agriculture of Tripoli, and the North education area, that was attended by a number of participants who discussed the importance of olive production in Lebanon.

In his speech, President Salem  addressed the audience stating that Lebanese economy depends on the  agricultural sector and especially on olive production.
He also talked about the commitment of the University of Balamand in protecting the environment including the olive trees.

For his part, Dr. Elias Khalil, Dean of the Issam M. Fares Faculty of Technology (IFFT), stressed the importance of the olive tree that plays a fundamental role in the Lebanese life and that is valued at the University of Balamand.

He also showcased the seminars organized by the IFFT including those on renewable energy, waste management, cyber security, drug awareness along with agricultural workshops, to strengthen the ties between academic institutions and the community.

He then talked about  the collaboration between the IFFT and the agricultural institutions addressing the role of the department of agriculture that provides students with a broad understanding of the agricultural sector in Lebanon, and that prepares them to have hands-on experience in the agricultural field.

At the end of the event, participants went on a tour displaying olive oil products where more than 20 traders exhibited their products.
