Science Students Society (SSS) Club
Fostering campus life and serving the community

Since its founding in 2004, the Science Students Society (SSS) Club played a key role in fostering campus life and engaging with the community. Although its primary members are biology and chemistry students, enrollment is open for all students from other majors.

The main objective of the club is to promote leadership, and to increase scientific awareness through campus-wide and community based projects and activities.

With more than 40 members on board and a faculty member advisor, students organize a wide range of activities ranging from seminars, to exhibitions to awareness, social and fun events.

SSS Club has always been active in plantation days in the area of Kfarzebian-Mount Lebanon hosted by “Jouzour Loubnan”. Last October, SSS members planted over sixty trees of Juniperus excelsa: conifers known to be able to grow in arid environment.

The club also organized an annual gathering in Daad and Farid Karam reserve in Kaftoun for discussing future activities.

The club is also active in fundraising for good causes. Members regularly organize prescreening for newly released movies during which proceeds from these events go to support treatments of children with chronic diseases such as Sickle Cell Anemia and Leukemia, and raising awareness on road safety issues.

Affiliated with a number of NGO’s for good causes such as Chance, St. Jude Children Cancer Center, Georges Nassim Khoriaty (GNK) foundation and SOS Village, the club concluded its activities in December, by receiving children from the SOS Village in Kfarhay a couple of days before the Christmas vacation.

In 2012, the club earned two major awards: “Club of the year” and “Event of the year”. Now, the club is planning to find new ways and activities in engaging with the community.

This is not all; the SSS Club is organizing a Rally Paper at UOB for the third consecutive year in order to spread awareness on safe driving, and to help students explore the Koura region and other parts of the North along with enriching student communication skills by seeking sponsorship from local companies.
