LIRA Awards Ceremony

Balamand students claimed first, second and third prizes in the the annual Lebanese industrial Research Achievement Program competition. (LIRA)

The event took place at Dbayeh on December 13 and 14, where students from various universities in Lebanon presented their projects.
85 projects were distributed over different categories. Balamand projects were at the Masters level. The projects aimed at improving the innovation and industrial aspects of the engineering design process, some of them being already in collaboration and partnership with industrial partners, with partial funding from Bank of Lebanon. 

Chemical Engineering: 
First Prize Winners: Chemical engineering students  Charbel Harika and Bilal Haj Hussein, supervised by  Dr. Nisrine El Hassan from the Chemical Engineering Department who was awarded the Most distinguished supervisor award. Their project was titled: “Valorization of methane by reforming: design of promising mesoporous catalysts”.

Civil Engineering:
Second Prize Winners: William Hazim  and Khaled Allaw supervised by Dr. Georges Aouad and Dr. Marianne Saba. Their project was titled “Innovative Building Material that simultaneously functions as Photovoltaic Cell”.

Third Prize Winner: Rita Mahfouz  supervised by Dr. Jane Estephane, Dr. Samer Aouad and Engineer Bilal El Khoury. Their project was titled “Waste vegetable oil valorization into Biodiesel”.
