For Non Lebanese Faculty

The Lebanese Government requires that all non-Lebanese appointees obtain a work visa, a residence permit and a work permit in order to work in Lebanon .  While these are the responsibility of the appointee, in practice, the Human Resources undertakes the procedures to secure these as a service to the appointees.

A. Entry Visa to Lebanon
B. Work and Residence Permits
C. Renewal of Work Permit
D. Renewal of Residence Permit
E. Expatriate Installation and Travel Allowances

A. Entry Visa to Lebanon
The University Human Resources normally performs the formalities to secure the Work Entry Visa for the appointee prior to his/her arrival by a minimum period of one month, provided the necessary required documents (see below) are made available to the Human Resources Department by the respective Deans or Directors. Exceptionally, an appointee enters on a tourist visa after which the University conducts the procedures for a working visa.

Documents provided by the appointee prior to arrival:

a. Photocopy of a valid passport for a minimum period of 18 months for the appointee and each family member accompanying him/her showing:

  1. Passport number
  2. Place and date of birth
  3. Place and date of issue and expiry date

b. Names of the appointees’ father and mother (maiden name)
c. Photocopy of the highest academic Degree.

Upon arrival, the appointee should present himself/herself to the Human Resources and provide original documents validating the above.

B. Work and Residence Permits
The time needed to complete the formalities to secure the work permit is normally one month and an additional 20 days for the residence permit.  The original passport will be submitted to the Lebanese Security Office along with the application for residence permit.

C. Renewal of Work Permit
Normally a Work Permit is valid for one year and it is renewable one month prior to its expiration date. Two passport size photographs are needed at the time of every renewal.

D. Renewal of Residence Permit
The formalities for renewal of residence permit should start one month before its expiration date.  To renew the Residence Permit, the Work Permit should be valid for a period of not less than six months and the passport should be valid for a minimum of 18 months. Residence permit submitted at or after its expiration date will subject its bearer to a fine by the Lebanese authorities.
