Project on Mine Risk Education



On February 27, President Elie Salem met with the Head of the Sustainable Development Section at the European Union, Mr. Marcello Mori, and Ms. Sandrine Petroni, representing Her Excellency EU Ambassador Angeline Eichhorst, accompanied by Colonel Marie Abdel Massih, Head of the Mine Risk Education Program in the Lebanese Army, in the presence of Vice President Nadim Karam and Faculty members at the Faculty of Health Sciences. The visit was part of an ongoing collaboration between the European Union, the Lebanese Army, and the University of Balamand.

The purpose of the meeting was to officially launch the Project “Mine Action in Lebanon: Mine Victims Assistance and Mine Risk Education”. President Salem thanked the European Union and the Lebanon Mine Action Center of the Lebanese Army for entrusting the University of Balamand the contract for providing Mine Risk Education and Mine Victim Assistance in Lebanon. This activity is central to the mission of the University of providing service to the community. Mine Risk Education, said Dr. Salem, is a very important preemptive role that the University can play in cooperation with the Lebanese Army. ​​​
