University of Balamand > Administration > Presidency > President Salem > Planning

Balamand’s student body has grown from 42 at its official foundation in October 1988 to 5,316 in 2013, not counting students in the two faculties that existed before the official foundation (to view The University’s History click here ).  In the early years, priority was naturally given to the University’s short-term infrastructure, in order to meet the physical and pedagogical requirements of the formations offered.

In 2002, however, the Board of Trustees adopted a proposal by the University President to undertake long-term campus planning that would best serve the interests of the different Faculties by taking into account the growth of their numbers and the development of their programs.

Large-scale planning was launched.  It covered all parts of the University, developing along two interlinked axes:
  1. The axis of physical requirements in terms of living space, laboratories, the need for campus student life, the opening of the University to the community, and logistics in general.
  2. The axis of pedagogical formation in terms of teaching methodology, but also in terms of the general pedagogical environment and priorities of research, both theoretical and applied.
