COLLECTIONS

General Collection
The Library acquires and maintains a collection of materials
necessary for UOB faculty, student, staff and community
service programs of UOB. The collection includes
materials in all the fields of study implemented at the
University.

Reference Collection
The main Reference collection is located on the ground floor.
This is a large collection holding such works as
dictionaries, encyclopedias, directories,
bibliographies, atlases, etc. This material is
classified and cataloged under the location mark R.

Serials
The UOB Libraries have a comprehensive collection of
periodicals. It includes journals in English, Arabic and
French, and national and international newspapers.
Current issues are put on display, while back issues are
bound and stored separately. The Library currently
subscribes to about 400 journals.

Reserve Collection
The Reserve Collection, located at the Circulation Desk,
consists of instructor assigned reading and instructor
assigned non-print material. The use of the Reserve
Collection is limited to UOB students and personnel.

Special Collections
Special Collections are materials placed in a closed
area for a specific set of users. The Library's special
collections include the Nour Fares Collection (18th
and 19th century travels in the Middle East),
the Scaife Collection (English literature and history),
the Technical Collection (catalogs and samples of
construction materials), the Children's Collection
(still being developed).

Multimedia Collection
The Library's first and most important electronic resource is
its On-Line Public Access Catalog (OPAC), an automated
catalog of all the library's holdings. The Library's
collection of CD-ROM titles is continuously expanding.
They are only available for searching on site. These
CD-ROMS may vary from bibliographic, to full-text, to
reference material. All CD-ROMs are listed stating the
dates and issues available. The UOB Libraries sources also
include a number of audiovisual items such as
audio-cassettes, microfilms and videotapes.
