Deadlines: Orders for general reference and
collection development may be placed anytime. Orders for
textbooks or material to be used in an upcoming semester
must be placed according to the following timetable:
For
the Fall Semester, orders should be placed by
June of that year. Ex: Fall 2003 – 2004 order by June
2003.
For
the Spring Semester, orders should be made by
December of the previous year. EX: Spring 2003 – 2004
order by December 2003.

The
fiscal year of the Library begins in October 1 and ends
September 30 of the following year. Thus Faculty orders
submitted after July 31 cannot be guaranteed to be
placed before the next fiscal year begins.

BUT
WHY WAIT?
You are encouraged to begin as early in the fall
semester as possible. You might want to prioritize your
requests in case funds turn out to be limited. By
submitting requests early, you increase your chances of
getting the materials you want, and increase the chances
of receiving orders on time.

Journal/Periodical Subscriptions: Faculty with
requests for periodical titles that the library should
consider subscribing to should talk with the Faculty
Dean and with the Department Chair. The periodicals
budget is separate from the budget for all other library
materials. The periodical subscription should be
approved by the Dean and submitted by June in order to
place an order by September.

2.4
Number of Copies: The Library usually acquires one
copy of any material unless it is to be used as a class
textbook. In this case the number of copies purchased
corresponds to the number of faculty members teaching a
course over the period of one semester. Likewise, a copy
will be made available for student use in the Library.
