In recognition of a lifetime of service and devotion to the engineering profession, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) has conferred upon Mr. Abdel Munim Alameddine the ASCE Distinguished Service Medal. This award comes in acknowledgement of his distinguished services to ASCE as the founder of the ASCE Lebanon Section back in 2013, his support to ASCE in securing collaboration with the Lebanese Federation of Engineers, and his services as a Vice President of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations and its chair of the Engineering Education Committee.

Mr. Alameddine stated: “I feel humbled and grateful to have received this recognition. I believe our calling as the older generation of engineers is to pave the way for future engineers to innovate, excel, and thrive. ASCE is a leading worldwide professional organization that I feel privileged to have worked with. I extend my sincere gratitude to ASCE Region 10, ASCE Lebanon Section board members and president.”

In turn, ASCE Lebanon Section President, Professor Tony Gergess, said: “Munim is genuine. ASCE Lebanon Section would not have been established without him, and for that, we are very indebted to him. He brought this group of civil engineers to work together with full support from the Federation of Lebanese Engineers.” Professor Gergess concluded: “Thank you, Munim! You showed us the way!”

Vice President for Internationalization and Engagement and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Professor Rami Abboud congratulated Mr Alameddine, declaring: “Very few engineers have made contributions to shaping and advancing the engineering profession and engineering education in Lebanon as much as Mr. Alameddine has. He has selflessly gone beyond the call of duty to promote the engineering profession nationally, in his various roles including as past President of the Order of Engineers of Tripoli, and internationally as the Vice President of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations. I congratulate him on this well-deserved and long overdue recognition. I truly believe that our students are fortunate to have Mr Alameddine as a mentor who genuinely shared his wisdom, experience, and insight.”
