Welcoming Dr. Karim Rebeiz as the New Dean of FOBM

It gives me great pleasure to welcome Professor Karim Rebeiz to the University of Balamand as the Dean of the Faculty of Business and Management.

Dr. Karim S. Rebeiz received his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin, his MBA from Harvard Business School, and his Bachelor in Engineering from the American University of Beirut. He draws upon more than twenty years of academic experience as an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor at Lafayette College, the American University of Beirut and Phoenicia University, respectively. He was also a Visiting Professor at many prominent universities, such as the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, HEC Paris, University of Hartford, and Otto Von Guericke University in Magdeburg.

He has close to ten years of administrative leadership experience in academia as the Dean of the College of Business at Phoenicia University, the Founding Dean of the College of Engineering at Phoenicia University, and the Acting Dean of Students’ Services in the Olayan School of Business at the American University of Beirut (AUB). He was also a founding member of the Olayan School of Business at AUB and a major contributor in securing AACSB accreditation for the School. Moreover, his leadership experience encompasses many years of corporate experience with prominent Fortune 500 firms in the U.S. and Europe such as Ford Motor Co., JP Morgan Chase Bank / First USA Bank, and McKinsey and Kearney.

He is the recipient of many research and teaching awards. His scholarly output is in the form of more than 70 refereed journal papers and 150 refereed papers for book chapters and conference papers. Recently, he has been recognized as being among the top 2% most influential and prolific researchers in the world.

In addition, Dr. Rebeiz has been invited as a guest speaker at many conferences in the U.S., Europe and Japan in recognition for his research accomplishments, and has been an executive committee member at various prominent conferences all over the world. He served as the Associate Editor of the ASCE Journal "Energy Engineering", and is currently the Associate Editor of "Corporate Governance: The International Journal of Business in Society".

On this occasion, I would like to express my deep appreciation to Dr. Hala Khayr for leading and promoting the Faculty amid the unprecedented difficulties that Lebanon has been, and is still, experiencing. She herself conveyed her eagerness to be relieved from her administrative duties in order to focus on teaching and research where she will surely excel, as she always did.

We look forward to welcoming Dr. Rebeiz as of Spring Semester 2021, where he will join efforts with our dedicated faculty and staff, in order to achieve the mission that our University is relentlessly devoted to fulfill.
