Outstanding Balamandian Engineer, Michelle Nassar, sets New Standards of Dedication and Excellence

From childhood dreams to engineering excellence, the inspirational academic journey of Michelle Nassar, a remarkable graduate from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Balamand (UOB), is without a doubt a source of inspiration. Her story exemplifies the power of dedication, unwavering passion, and hard work in the pursuit of engineering knowledge and career achievements.

Michelle holds a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and was one of our top level students who graduated in 2017 with distinction, holding a GPA of 3.63 and a cumulative average of 91%. Equipped with the knowledge and skills acquired from her time at UOB, Michelle embarked on her PhD program and graduated in 2021.

Her doctoral studies focused on: “Characterization of electrical properties and Kerr coefficients of two hydrofluoroethers used in electro hydrodynamics” and was co-supervised by Dr. Michel Daaboul, an Associate Professor at the Mechanical Engineering Department at UOB.

Her PhD was on a co-direction between the University of Balamand and the University of Poitiers in France based on a long term collaboration between both institutions, which has most recently paved the way for the signing of a comprehensive MoU to further expand the excellent research and mobility collaborative relationship. After completing her PhD degree, Michelle went on to work as an Assistant Professor at the University of Poitiers for two consecutive years.

What makes Michelle’s story more successful is that she was snapped up and recently transferred to another prestigious institution, this time in industry, and specifically Schneider System Center of Excellence in France, where she has been working as an Electromechanical System Engineer, since September 2022. Being part of such a distinguished institution is a testament to Michelle’s talent and expertize, which deserves great recognition and admiration.

Michelle’s young age has not been overlooked in recognizing her academic achievements, as she has been honored with the publication of six significant peer reviewed papers. She has already published four conference papers, two journal papers, and further two conference papers are in the process of being published.

Reflecting on her previous journey at Balamand, Michelle asserted: “The University of Balamand helped me shape my success and personal growth. The vibrant academic environment, dedicated faculty, rigorous coursework, and hands-on research opportunities honed my skills and expanded my horizons. Emphasizing critical thinking and problem-solving, the university prepared me for professional challenges. Grateful for the tools and knowledge acquired, I have since my graduation embarked on a journey to pursue my dreams and make a meaningful impact in my chosen field”.

Vice President for Internationalization and Engagement and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Professor Rami Abboud praised Michelle’s exceptional academic achievements and stated: “Congratulations on this remarkable success in such a short time! Your dedication, hard work, and perseverance have paid off, and it is truly inspiring to witness your outstanding academic accomplishments.

Your commitment to excellence has set you apart and brought you this well-deserved industrial position to make a difference in society and meeting UN SDGs 8, 9 and 11.
