Mission statement
- The Department of Archaeology and Museology (DAM) was founded in 2010 as an integral part of the Institute of History, Archaeology and Near Eastern Studies (IOHANES) at the University of Balamand (UOB).
- In addition to supporting the mission and vision of the university, our mission is to study, preserve, and promote cultural heritage as a whole. This primarily includes but is not limited to the tangible and intangible national legacy of Lebanon and the Near East, with a special interest in the Koura area and its surroundings within the North Lebanon Governorate.
- In the archaeological field, DAM has conducted, for more than ten years now, numerous archaeological excavations, surveys, studies, researches, lectures, conferences, publications, exhibitions and events related to various sites and monuments.
- In the field of museology, and since the opening of the Ethnographic Museum in 2009, DAM has continued to acquire, collect, and preserve Lebanese ethnographic artifacts. It also conducts ethnographic campaigns focused on recording, preserving, and disseminating heritage knowledge.
