Orthopedic Surgery

Mission
The Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program aims to provide residents with the medical knowledge, clinical experience, and surgical skills in subspecialty areas of Orthopedic Surgery in preparation for clinical or academic practice.

Objectives
The Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program aims to prepare residents that fulfill the following competencies in medical education:
  • - Medical knowledge:
    Residents will acquire an in-depth medical knowledge in subspecialty areas to achieve professional competency in Orthopedic Surgery.
  • - Patient care:
    Residents will provide an appropriate, effective, and compassionate patient care.
  • - Interpersonal and communication skills:
    Residents will learn and practice effective communication with patients, families, and health professionals in the patient care team.
  • - Practice-based learning and improvement:
    Residents will be able to evaluate and critically appraise the scientific and medical literature relevant to orthopedic patient care.
  • - Systems-based practice:
    Residents will demonstrate an understanding for the diagnosis and management of the orthopedic disease to optimize patient care.
  • - Professionalism:
    Residents will demonstrate ethical conduct and serve as advocates for the interest of patients.
Program Learning Outcomes
By the end of their training, residents are expected to:
  1. Conduct a medical history and perform a physical examination that is adequate for the clinical orthopedic surgical problem.
  2. Generate a diagnosis in orthopedics.
  3. Acquire the orthopedic surgical skills necessary for diagnosis, operation performance, and postoperative follow-up.
  4. Demonstrate competence in the non-operative and operative management of orthopedic patients.
  5. Participate in Rounds and Case Review Conferences.
  6. Promote active, self-directed learning.
