UOB and GIZ sign contract for Recovering Livelihood for Agricultural Value Chains in North Lebanon

The President of the University of Balamand Dr. Elias Warrak signed a contract agreement with the German Corporation for International Cooperation GmbH (GIZ) represented by Mr. Bjoern Zimprich the head of UDP-NL program and the Technical Advisors Mr. Toufic Nakhoul and Ms. Nay Andraos. The grant has been awarded to the Department of Agriculture at the Issam Fares Faculty of Technology at the University of Balamand, represented by Acting Dean, Dr. Elie Karam, and Chairperson, Dr. Rodrigue El Balaa.

The primary objective of the project is to improve technical and entrepreneurial know-how of farmers in three value chains: Olives in Koura, Apples in Batroun, and Dairy in Zgharta and will include distribution of equipment to upgrade the farmers, productivity and efficiency. The trainers prepared for intervention, the trained farmers, and the offered trainings will benchmark this overall objective.

The contract is worth 203,240 Euros and its implementation will be completed by end of September 2021. The project part of the #UDP_NL component is implemented by GIZ in partnership with #MoSA and funded by the European Union in Lebanon and the German Embassy in Beirut.
