The University of Balamand would like to congratulate the Lebanese women's basketball team for winning the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup competition for Division B. Hosted in Amman, the Lebanese team achieved a great victory over the Jordanian team in the final match that was held at Prince Hamzah Hall, and they have now qualified for the Division A Asia Cup in 2023.

The University would also like to congratulate the team’s head coach since 2021, George Geagea, who is a student at UOB pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education.

George is also the head coach of Al Riyadi Club Division A and this year, at the age of 26, he has received the title of “Youngest coach to win the Lebanese Basketball Championship” in July 2021. His other wins include the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup competition for Division B in November 2021 and the Eurasia Cup in Armenia with the "Al Riyadi team in March 2021.

Coach Geagea stressed on the importance of education, stating "Education always comes first, as it represents discipline, respect and listening to advice. And when I say education, I mean character building, learning respect, trust, work ethic, responsibility, compassion, cooperation and dedication."

He further added: "I would like to thank all my colleagues, friends and fans who helped me realize my dream. A special thanks goes out to my university, the University of Balamand, for giving me the opportunity to share this message with my colleagues. I wish everyone all the best in their future careers and work.”
