On March 20th, the Digital Humanities Centre (DHC) had the pleasure and honor to welcome a delegation from the Katholische Universität Eichstätt-Ingolstadt (Germany). The delegation was led by Prof. Dr. Thomas Kremer, chair for Theology of the Christian East, and included representatives from the Christian Orient Research Center.

The aim of the visit was to strengthen the collaboration between the DHC and the Christian Orient Research Center. The collaboration started in 2016 on the joint project, SyRum, which aims to preserve and study the Syriac heritage of the Rūm Orthodox Church.

Also, the visit addressed future actions related to the Online Campus project with Joachim Brown, the Scientific Coordinator and Manager. The Online Campus is a new seven-year project, which received almost one million euros in funding from the Volkswagen Foundation. The project aims to establish an online campus for Eastern Christian studies and will be based in Eichstätt with the support of a wide consortium of institutions, including the DHC. Strengthening Eastern Christian Studies is a significant goal that can be achieved through a reorientation of the traditional scientific culture in teaching, research, and knowledge transfer.

In addition to the productive meetings held with the DHC team, the delegation met with the Provost, Dr. George Bahr, the Vice President for Internationalization and Engagement, Dr. Rami Abboud, and the Dean of the Institute of Theology, Right Rev. Archimandrite Jack Khalil.

The delegation also visited Our Lady of Balamand Patriarchal Monastery where its abbot, Right Rev. Georges Yacoub, extended a warm welcome.

The DHC looks forward to continuing their collaboration with the Katholische Universität Eichstätt-Ingolstadt and the Christian Orient Research Center with the aim of developing new projects that would help promote and preserve the rich cultural heritage of the Christian East.
