Third Consecutive ISO Certification for The Civil and Environmental Engineering Laboratories

Third Consecutive ISO Certification for The Civil and Environmental Engineering Laboratories

For the third consecutive year in a row, the Civil and Environmental Engineering Laboratories at the Faculty of Engineering have received the ISO 9001:2015 certification. Both laboratories have been assessed and certified as meeting the requirements of ISO 9001, where the scope of certification was regarding students’ development through teaching, testing, and research activities, as well as R&D and testing services for internal and external parties. This most recent accreditation follows numerous efforts and initiatives that have been ongoing since September 2016.

The ISO 9001 certification was acquired through SGS (formerly Société Générale de Surveillance), a global company headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, which provides inspection, verification, testing and certification services. The certification supports laboratory facilities to develop and improve performance, as well as establish high standards of international service quality.

The auditor met with the engineering team who oversaw the certification process on behalf of the faculty, which was composed of Prof. Joseph Assaad (Chairperson of the Civil Engineering Department at the time), Dr. Yasmine Jabali (Internal Auditor and Assistant Professor at the Civil Engineering Department), and Mrs. Nina Helal (Quality Coordinator and Civil Engineering Laboratory Supervisor). The audit team conducted a process-based assessment focusing on significant aspects, risks, and objectives required by the standards. Interviews, observation of activities, and review of documentation and records, where the methods used by the examiner. The certificate was therefore granted exceptionally for a period of three years, ending in February 2026, after considering the high level of documentation, the advanced quality of equipment, and the sustained services provided at the laboratories.

Vice President for Internationalization and Engagement and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Professor Rami Abboud praised the team’s valuable efforts, dedication, and perseverance. He believes that the Faculty of Engineering would have never reached a third-year certification, without the team's substantial contributions and commitment to the institution. Professor Abboud is confident that both, the Civil and Environmental Engineering Laboratories, provide the ideal learning environment perfectly intended to achieve our academic mission as well as reaching our educational and sustainable research goals.
