University of Balamand Medical Students, Residents, and Fellows Earn Top Honors at the Third National Research Day

The University of Balamand congratulates its students, residents, and fellows from the Faculty of Medicine and Medical Sciences for their outstanding achievements at the Third National Research Day, held on May 30, 2026, at the Lebanese University.

Among the highlights was the awarding of Third Prize for Best Poster Presentation in Clinical Research in the national competition among Lebanon’s eight medical schools. The award was presented to Dr. Miled Yaacoub et al. for their research entitled “Hidden in Plain Sight: Ocular Complications in Patients with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD): A Cross-Sectional Study.”

In addition, Mr. Alaa El Eter et al. received the Best Research Award among all University of Balamand presentations for their study “Evaluation of the Therapeutic Effects of Orally Administered Heat-Killed Mycobacterium aurum on Glycemic Management in Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetic BALB/c Mice.”

These achievements were recognized during the Third National Research Day, which brought together more than 750 attendees, including medical students, residents, fellows, and faculty members from Lebanon’s eight medical schools. The event featured 264 accepted research abstracts from a total of 545 submissions, including 67 oral presentations and 197 poster presentations, reflecting the breadth and quality of medical research being conducted across the country.

The accomplishments of University of Balamand students, residents, and fellows reflect the Faculty’s commitment to fostering a culture of research, innovation, and academic excellence. They also highlight the dedication of our students, residents, and fellows in addition to the invaluable mentorship provided by faculty members in advancing medical knowledge and scientific discovery.
