The Department of Nutritional Sciences at the University of Balamand (UOB) organized a workshop entitled “Beyond the Clinic: Ethical, Professional & Technological Perspectives in Dietetics Practice” on June 12, 2026, at the University’s Dekwaneh Campus, with the participation of representatives from the Lebanese Order of Dietitians. The event brought together faculty members, healthcare professionals, dietitians, and students to explore contemporary issues shaping the future of dietetics practice.
The program featured a series of presentations delivered by academics, healthcare professionals, and experts from leading educational and healthcare institutions in Lebanon. The sessions addressed key topics in the field, including job satisfaction in dietetics practice, ethical principles and professional conduct, the responsible use of social media, the applications and challenges of artificial intelligence in nutrition and dietetics, and the essential role of preceptors in the training and development of future dietitians.
Dr. Huda Huijer, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at UOB, shared some key pillars for the future of practice and stated: “We are here today to rethink how dieticians make impact in communities, schools, workplaces, technology, and beyond. Today is about bold ideas, practical tools, and real partnerships while leveraging digital tools wisely of advocate for better food and better health for all.”
Dr. Maud Rizk, Chairperson of the Department of Nutritional Sciences at UOB, stated: “This event provides an important opportunity to come together to exchange knowledge, share experiences, and discuss the opportunities and challenges that shape contemporary dietetics practice.” She confirmed: “The field of nutrition and dietetics continues to evolve rapidly, driven by scientific advances, changing healthcare needs, and emerging technologies. Dietitians are increasingly called upon to expand their roles, adapt to new challenges, and contribute to improving health outcomes in innovative ways.”
The workshop concluded with a recognition ceremony honoring preceptors for their dedication and valuable contributions to the training and development of future dietitians.
Through initiatives such as this workshop, UOB continues to advance excellence in health sciences education, fostering innovation, ethical practice, and professional development among future healthcare leaders.
