White Coat Ceremony Marks a New Milestone for Health Sciences Students at UOB

The Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Balamand celebrated 120 students during the “White Coat Ceremony” held on October 12, 2026, at the Koura Campus. The ceremony brought together students from the programs of Medical Laboratory Sciences, Nursing, and Nutritional Sciences, marking an important milestone in their academic and professional journeys as they prepare to enter their respective fields.

Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Dr. Huda Huijer, addressed the students, emphasizing the responsibility that comes with wearing the white coat and the importance of balancing professional competence with humility and compassion. She reminded them that “your coat has pockets which need to be filled during your time with us at FHS,” encouraging them to fill these pockets with “Competence” and “Compassion.” Stressing the importance of combining scientific knowledge with empathy, she told the students, “Patients don't care how much you know until they know how much you care.” She also urged them to “never let technology replace the human connection,” reminding them of the importance of trust and respect in caring for patients.

The ceremony also featured addresses by the respective program representatives: Dr. Mira Chaar, Chairperson of the Medical Laboratory Sciences Program, Dr. Mathilde Azar, Director of the Nursing Program, and Dr. Maud Rizk, Chairperson of the Nutritional Sciences Program. They emphasized the importance of wearing the white coat with empathy, dignity, and compassion, reminding students that their professional responsibilities extend beyond technical knowledge to include respect for patients, ethical practice, and a genuine commitment to caring for others.

The ceremony included a pledge for each of the three programs. Through their pledges, the students reaffirmed their commitment to the ethical principles, professional standards, and responsibilities that will guide them throughout their careers in healthcare.

The University of Balamand takes pride in its Faculty of Health Sciences students as they embark on the next stage of their professional journeys, carrying with them a commitment to excellence, ethical practice, and the delivery of compassionate, and high-quality healthcare.
