THE UOB Nursing Student Society highlight Breast Cancer Awareness through their initiative “HER: Beyond the Ribbon”

The Nursing Student Society Club (NSS) at the University of Balamand organized “Beyond the Ribbon,” a breast cancer awareness event held at the Municipality of Dekwaneh, bringing together attendees of different age groups for an engaging and educational experience focused on breast health, early detection, and debunking common misconceptions about breast cancer.

Through interactive discussions, student club members highlighted the importance of regular breast screening, including mammography and breast ultrasound when appropriate, as well as breast self-awareness and recognizing potential changes that warrant medical evaluation.

A key feature of the event was the open dialogue between nursing students and attendees, who were encouraged to share their experiences, family histories, questions, and existing beliefs about breast cancer. This exchange provided an opportunity to address misinformation, clarify common misconceptions, and reinforce evidence-based information in an accessible and supportive environment.

To further support early detection, more than 30 screening discount coupons for mammography and breast ultrasound from Karagheusian PHCC, were distributed, encouraging attendees to take a meaningful step towards their personal health.

This initiative shows our students’ commitment to community health promotion, preventive education, and public engagement. The event emphasized that breast cancer awareness extends beyond the pink ribbon: it involves informed decisions, early detection, supportive communities, and empowering individuals to take an active role in their health.
