PSIA Organizes a Panel Discussion with the Ambassador of Brazil to Lebanon

The Department of Political Science and International Affairs (PSIA) at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at the University of Balamand (UOB) hosted a panel discussion on November 27, 2025, at the UOB Koura Campus, featuring H.E. Tarcisio Costa, Ambassador of Brazil to Lebanon. The event was attended by Provost George Bahr, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Dr. Hanna Al Nakat, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Dr. Huda Huijer, along with several social figures, faculty members, staff, and students.

Titled “Brazil in a Changing World,” the session was moderated by Emmanuel Elias, a UOB alumnus and PSIA student. The discussion offered an exploration of Brazil’s evolving role in global affairs, providing students and attendees with insights into the country’s international priorities and economic landscape.

In his address, Ambassador Costa highlighted the fundamental aspects of Brazil’s foreign policy, emphasizing its universalistic principles and deep commitment to multilateralism. He provided a detailed overview of Brazil’s foreign trade distribution in 2024, its global standing in foreign direct investment inflows in 2023, and projections for GDP (PPP) in 2025. Throughout his talk, he illustrated how Brazil navigates the complexities of global diplomacy while pursuing a vision of leadership on the international stage.

The Ambassador’s remarks underscored Brazil’s engagement with multilateral institutions, its strategic partnerships across continents, and its efforts to project influence through constructive cooperation and dialogue. Attendees were offered an understanding of Brazil’s contemporary challenges and opportunities, as well as the principles guiding its foreign relations.
