The University of Balamand, in collaboration with the Economic Emergency Committee, organized a workshop titled "Education Competencies and Modern Strategies" on September 11, 2023, at the university's Beino-Akkar campus. The workshop explored the educational skills required to navigate the evolving landscape of the modern education sector. Notable attendees included Dr. Elie Karam, Dean of the Issam Fares Faculty of Technology, Dr. Khalid Itani, Director of the Economic Emergency Committee, Dr. Hanna El Nakat, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at the University of Balamand, and Dr. Ghania Zgheib, Head of the Education Department at the University. Additionally, the event saw substantial participation from educators, school principals, and teachers representing both the public and private sectors.

In his welcome speech, Dr. Karam emphasized the importance of the educational sector and its role in rebuilding society, stating: "Higher education serves as a foundation for the revitalization of society. Today, we gather with the aim of finding solutions to the obstacles hindering the growth of the education sector through the exchange of ideas and laying the foundations for collaboration with educational bodies to enhance academic standards."

Dr. Itani highlighted the Economic Emergency Committee's objective of fostering the growth of schools and universities while aligning them effectively with the job market. He underscored the role of collaboration within the education sector, as well as teachers' dedication to the educational mission aimed at enhancing academic standards. Dr. Itani also stressed the imperative of exploring contemporary systems for prioritizing competencies within curricula, with a particular focus on knowledge, skills, and ethical values.

In her lecture, Dr. Zgheib discussed the formulation of a strategic plan for integrating technology into schools and the education system. She emphasized the critical need for enhancing teachers' competencies and providing them with comprehensive support for the effective incorporation of technology. Moreover, Dr. Zgheib tackled the pertinent issues and obstacles facing educators and offered insights on strategies to overcome these challenges.

This project falls within the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically related to Quality Education (SDG 4).
