The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Balamand Secured ABET BS Re-Accreditation for a further 5 years

The University of Balamand’s (UOB) Faculty of Engineering (FOE) has reached another remarkable milestone, cementing itself as a leading institution for engineering education. We are proudly announcing ABET’s (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) re-accreditation for all our 5 Bachelor of Science (BS) degrees in Civil, Electrical, Chemical, Computer, and Mechanical Engineering respectively which were first accredited from September 2019.

Despite the devastating war that struck Lebanon late last year between September and November 2024, the Faculty of Engineering demonstrated unmatched determination and excellence, preparing for this major evaluation entirely virtually. The rigorous four-day ABET review (November 17–20, 2024) highlighted the faculty’s resilience, innovation, forward thinking, and commitment to quality education even in times of crisis. The ABET team reviewed the curriculum, the faculty members, the existing students, alumni and industry feedbacks, the faculty and the university infrastructure in support of excellence in engineering education.

Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Vice President for Internationalization and Engagement, Professor Rami Abboud, dedicated the outstanding and extraordinary results achieved to the entire Balamand FOE community for making history and for making Lebanon proud with an exceptional outcome. Reflecting on this, Professor Abboud stated: “The outcome achieved not only stands as a testament to our faculty’s continuous pursuit of excellence, innovation, and quality education, but also reaffirms the university’s leadership in engineering education setting a new benchmark for academic excellence”. This achievement would not have been possible without the unconditional support of staff and faculty members at FOE and its sister, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, as well as the administrators at the university in their various roles and specifically our President, Dr Elias Warrak, who has been a great believer in our engineering mission for a better future.
